At once a fantastic—almost crazed—lover to the over-sexed lawyer whom she needs for one part of the plan, Lisa also simultaneously becomes the lesbian lover to a reserved company controller whom she needs for another part of the plan. Lisa’s chameleon-like transformations take their toll on her psyche, threatening at times to derail her carefully-laid-out blueprint for revenge.
Lisa’s uncle, a co-conspirator in this revenge plot, provides the balance and stability that is much-needed in Lisa’s often-schizophrenic obsession with making her tormentor pay for his assault on her. Her uncle brings Lisa back from the brink of self-destruction many times throughout this narrative, and keeps her focused on her ultimate goal.
All this takes place against a background of the tournament golf world in the fairytale-like location of South Florida. The author’s detailed knowledge of tournament golf puts the reader right there on the links, experiencing the strain, anguish, exhilaration, and heartbreak of being on the professional golf circuit.
How is Lisa able to keep herself together, artfully choreographing the various characters she has assembled, all the while playing her way up through the ranks of women’s tournament golf with the goal of competing in the PGA’s International Cup? And, when the final goal of revenge is within her grasp, does she find it sweet, or bittersweet? Or, does her relentless quest for revenge destroy her in the end?
